MYOB Exo User Group
- September 2020 -

Not to be dissuaded by the impact of COVID-19, there were over 100 registered attendants to the online MYOB Exo User Groups sessions, held over 2 days this September. MYOB Exo users benefited from a thorough and comprehensive exploration of the features of the software. Expert panellists representing MYOB, Kilimanjaro Consulting, and Enprise Solutions gave insights into the market trends, with a sneak peek at MYOB Advanced and what business can achieve when working in the cloud.

Did you miss out on experiencing the sessions firsthand, or did you just want to refresh on what was covered? Here are the five key takeaways from the MYOB Exo User Groups from September 2020.

1.  Life in the time of COVID-19

Enprise Division  CEO Ronnie Baskind spoke about the impact of COVID-19 on business practice, predicting 5 likely technological trends in 2021. Of the most significant note to MYOB Exo users was that the current pandemic has been accelerating technological acceptance rather than generating increased innovation. The adoption of these technologies is a necessity to merge working from home and office, resulting in newfound confidence in the reliability, security, and workability of the internet. Evidence enough that the entire User Groups webinar run was seamlessly through the Zoom platform.

2. An update from MYOB

We were very lucky to be joined by MYOB’s Senior Partner Manager Simone Leslie and MYOB’s Head of Enterprise Sales Stuart Roberts who spoke about the strategic direction of MYOB. The focus of MYOB remains on delivering intelligent and intuitive tools that help make business life easier. The key is that people and businesses are moving confidently towards the cloud. Previously, research had shown that 70% of on-premise ERP customers would look at moving to the cloud in the next 3-5 years. However, through the impact of COVID-19 and the growing dependence on the internet as a platform, that timeline has been halved. As a result, future development will be directed towards the Connected Business, to help companies gain complete control over their business and empower their workforces to deliver a better customer experience in real-time. This will result in creating experiences that matter.

3. Experiences that Matter, and a deep insight into the functionality of MYOB Exo

Becoming a Connected Business is the next stage of the journey for modern companies. Moving from the disconnected to the connected helps to provide meaningful pathways between systems, data, and people. This helps to do business more effectively, with good insights, especially away from the office. Building on the direction of MYOB, the panellists spoke about the benefits of a Connected Business, and how businesses can continue to evolve as a result.

The demonstration session showed the attendees how to get more out of MYOB Exo without the need for external software. MYOB Exo can integrate data from two different databases in order to move and sell stock between warehouses, and automatically email the customer. Such integration is possible with a standard MYOB Exo package, and is an invaluable process to save time and improve efficiency. Simplification builds on the concept of less is more, involving removing the clutter and getting down to what is really important. Over time, your MYOB Exo system will become congested with reports and functionality that not all of your employees need. Providing them with meaningful reporting in the places where they spend the most time, is a great way to make a difference to their working day without investing huge amounts of money. Restricting access to unnecessary applications within MYOB Exo based on specific staff roles helps to maintain a simple platform for your employees.

“In today’s market more than ever, those who do not innovate and evolve are left behind. MYOB are continuing to develop the Exo product to give you more tools in your toolkit.”
Murray Dudding, Service Delivery Manager - Enprise Solutions

4.  The future of MYOB Exo

Cash Flow Reporting is the big new feature coming with the newest version of MYOB Exo. Lucky enough to have an accessible test build, we saw a demonstration of the new Cash Flow platform, and how it can be used to get a clear picture of your current cash flow situation. Attendees showed great interest in the inclusion of cash flow reporting within MYOB Exo, reinforcing the demand for this useful function.

To enjoy the latest features such as cash flow management in MYOB Exo, make sure your software is up to date. MYOB experts recommend running software that is at least in the current 2-year MYOB support cycle, and to look to update every 12-18 months. Future updates in 2021 will focus on heightened functionality of MYOB Exo as MYOB look to continue improving the software into the future.

5. Pathways to the cloud and a sneak peek of MYOB Advanced

There are multiple pathways to working in the cloud – acknowledging the insights from MYOB that the majority of on-premise ERP customers will be looking to transition into the cloud in the coming years. Different models such as Hybrid, Simple Connectivity, Managed Cloud Hosting (such as ExoHosted), Private Cloud Hosting, Cloud as a Service, and SaaS models (such as MYOB Advanced) are now available and used by many businesses. The sneak peek of MYOB Advanced showed how businesses experiencing growing pains as they push the limits of MYOB Exo can find solutions in MYOB Advanced. Common indicators for businesses beginning to outgrow MYOB Exo are:

  • the need for increased mobility

  • data that can be accessed anywhere

  • growing audit and governance requirements, or

  • inadequate visibility of data.
